SDL InnerSpace Origins Raster Retro is a part of SDL InnerSpace Origins with raster graphics created with basic tools and techniques, before 2002. An interesting aspect of these works is that many of the effects haven't been created by filters, but by pixel level editing. The themes include early digital editing tricks, compositional experiments, and conceptual sketches. These works mark the beginning of several image series and editing methods that will be re-artifacted in the SDL InnerSpace. This collection is a summary of my studies of pixels, textures, and the essence of the concept of digital brushstroke. Some of the works in this part are masterpieces I am very proud of.

This is one of my oldest “asteroid textures,” created in 1995—long before SDL InnerSpace had a name. It’s never been used in any work, but it’s stayed with me for decades. Why? Because it was a moment of discovery.

This work is one of my earliest topographic works—assembled in 1996 using a montage of vector shapes with solid and textured fills, then beveled, embossed, and refined in Photoshop. It wasn’t created to be a texture, but as a standalone work of art. Still, it has served as a foundational source for several textures over the years.

This image was created in Photoshop in 1998. It is a texture montage, with two textures beveled and embossed on separate layers. The glowing part in the middle is a beveled, semi-transparent layer with a simplified and vectorized fractal.

This image from 1997 was the first “pilot work” in my first collection of space images, born from the same poetic seed as the rest: an old Swedish poem of mine about “newborn stars watching through the mist, like curious eyes.”
